Considering transitioning from working at home into a small office space? The concept of working from the comfort of your own home sounds liberating enough, but many people are making the switch as they realize the benefits of having personalized office space.

Allow us to further discuss some tips on how to make the transition a smooth and successful experience.

1. A Thorough Reflection

Working from home seems to be the ultimate dream for most employees in this current period. However, it doesn’t apply to everyone. Some companies still prefer to have their staff within the office for easier communication.

That’s why before you report onsite, think of the reasons why you have to do it. Does it increase your productivity? Does it help you socialize? Can it provide stability or growth?

It would be easier to transition when you’re well aware of your reasons. They can also motivate you when you’re starting to rethink your decision to work onsite.

2.  “Slow & Steady” Transition

It’s difficult to familiarize yourself with something that is normally outside your comfort zone, or returning to old habits to which you never find yourself doing again. Some might find it even daunting to adjust back to working onsite when you have been working remotely for a period of time.

Sometimes, the best method is to simply take your time adjusting to new surroundings. It is crucial to make a proposal with your supervisor if you can work a couple of days at home (only in the beginning) and the rest of the remaining week in the office.

Should the proposal be denied, having your team work offsite at least once a month is also a good alternative. You can even suggest a coffee shop or a coworking space near your office to assist with the transition process. This change in scenery might be simple, but it can and spark creativity for everyone.

3. Stocking Up Your Station

One of the perks of working in your personal home office is the convenience and accessibility to everything that you need (No doubt, you’ll miss that!). As you participate more with transitioning, it would be wise to stock up on the basic office essentials.

Prepare and place the things that you need on your office desk, or a cabinet if your company has not provided that for you yet. Ready the desk accessories and organizers that you might need. In this way, you’ll feel right at home.

4.  Following A Routine

People, who work remotely, typically have a routine to keep them in check. Likewise, you should have a similar routine when working in an office. The procedure will not be the same however, but on the bright side, you have a proper guide to follow.

Your productivity and efficiency may increase when you establish boundaries around your time. Your routine will also help you adapt to your work onsite.

5. Tuning To A Lively Transition

No matter where you’re working, always make the best out of it! Whether it’s attending online (or in-person) meetings, or sitting in front of a computer all day, the idea of ‘working’ is a dull and soul-crushing process already on its own. Thankfully, as time went on, innovation finally kept up to meet our needs and daily conveniences.

For instance, if you find yourself weary from sitting all day, a sit-to-stand desk comes in handy. Not only does the level of productivity increase, but your overall health changes for the better. Adding an ergonomic chair to your workstation is also essential, as this prevents musculoskeletal disorders from developing further, due to long sedentary hours.

If permitted, you may also bring real or fake plants to your office. As this will help improve your mood, and enhance the livability around you, as well.

6. Good Communication

One of the main advantages of working onsite is that you can personally socialize with your co-workers. So, try to make the most out of it!

Always ask them how they’re doing and if they need any assistance. In doing so, they would be glad to return the favor in the future. Workplace bonds and relationships usually improve when employees find themselves sharing work-related (or outside) issues with their peers, updating them on what one is working on and what needs to be done, and many more.

Effectively communicate with your superiors too. Never hesitate to ask them for feedback to ensure that you’re reaching your goals, and you’re still on track in terms of productivity and performance.

You and your team may also participate in weekly meetings to deal with urgent tasks & updates, new projects, and other ideas to compliment the goals & visions of the company

7. Embracing Optimism

As they say, “Look for the silver lining”. The same can be said for this case. It’s good to be aware of the reasons why, but it’s significantly better once you consider the advantages of working in the office as well.

The more you’re aware of the benefits, the better you will greatly appreciate the situation that you’re in. And you can use said beneficial assets to assure yourself that you made the right decision, while simultaneously, helping with your own self-development further.
